We offer a variety of options for beginners:
Firstly, you can drop by anytime and try bouldering. The bouldering areas require no reservation and offers terrain for climbers of all abilities. This type of climbing is closer to the ground and doesn't require ropes and harnesses. We provide gymnastic pads for your safety. Bouldering is a great way to learn to climb and develop technique and climbing strength.
I’m an experienced climber, what do I need to get started?
Just stop in! We will give you a quick bouldering orientation and show you around the gym. Once you've signed a waiver and gone through an orientation, you'll be free to explore the facility and climb at your own pace.
MetroRock Williamsburg is a bouldering only facility. Our walls vary from 7' to 15' and we offer a variety of different terrain from steep overhangs to slab climb.
Yes; the gym has fitness areas with aerobic exercise machines and weights. There is also a campus board training area downstairs near the Kilter Board. If you are looking for a space to take a break from your climbs, we've got that too! There is a work/study space for looking to take a break during their climbing session or if you just need a quiet place to get some work done.
Generally, you want to wear clothes that don't constrict movement and are what you'd be comfortable in while exercising moderately. Climbing isn't an intensely aerobic activity, but you will sweat and you will see a full range of motion. Skirts and dresses are a bad idea! Also, try to avoid wearing rings and watches because if they get caught in a fall, you can really hurt yourself.
Climbing involves inherent risks but we go to great lengths to prevent injury and accidents. It is most dangerous if you ignore the systems and methods designed to keep you safe. Our instructors will teach you to use the gear and to safely make your way around the gym. We adhere to the highest standards of safety and will not let you climb until we're certain you know how to be safe.
Or, as our waiver puts it:

What programs do you have to help me improve my climbing skills?
We offer a variety of classes and training options. Whether you're looking to learn a skill, refine your training program for overall climbing fitness, or improve your technique, we've got the people and the programs to help. Click here for your options or inquire at the desk.
Kids are natural climbers and have a great time in our facilities. They overcome challenges, get exercise and build confidence by reaching the top of climbs. Children are welcome to climb on the boulders under your supervision. Bouldering allows them to climb more frequently than rope climbs and though they don't climb to the same heights, they enjoy conquering the boulder walls as much as rope climbs.
See our party page for details and call the gym to set up the event.
See our programs page to learn about other ways to get your kids involved in the vibrant youth climbing scene at MetroRock.
What type of memberships do you offer?
See our rates page in the sidebar for details. We offer memberships or punchcards for frequent climbers. Rates vary based on duration, student status and if you are signing up with family members. Click here to read about our memberships and daily rates.
MetroRock membership holders in non-Brooklyn MetroRock gyms, can utilize their memberships in our Brooklyn location up to 4 days per month without incurring any additional charges. Usage beyond the 4 days will require the purchase of a day pass OR that their membership be transferred, at local prices, to our Brooklyn location. For use between other (non-Brooklyn) MetroRock locations, members can utilize their memberships without incurring any additional charges. Members at our Bushwick and Williamsburg locations have access to all MetroRock locations.
Punchcards, however, are not transferable from one location to the other.
At all facilities, if you arrive before 3PM on weekdays, you pay a discounted fee for day passes. On Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Friday evenings, we host community nights where members of particular groups can receive a half-price day pass and discounted gear. Wednesday is Women Crush Wednesdays, Thursday is Queers 4 Climbing, and Friday after 3PM is our Student Night.
We also offer membership discounts for students, educators, healthcare workers, active and veteran military members, and first responders.
We occasionally offer discounts on memberships or punchcards either through the gym or a third party like groupon. Follow us on Facebook and Instagram to stay on top of all news and notices.
Yes, our gyms are full service fitness facilities and we can provide you with the documentation needed to get discounts on health insurance. This only applies when your health plan offers reimbursements. Email us to request documentation.
If you need to cancel an event, we offer a full refund if the cancellation occurs 21 days or more before the event. If you are altering your booking within that period, we are happy to offer a credit for use at MetroRock, minus the deposit. All gyms have gear shops with a selection of clothes, shoes, harnesses, chalk, rope and other hardware. We can get you outfitted for a day in the gym or a weekend at the crag. Our restrooms feature lockers (locks available on a limited basis) and showers.
We have free WIFI! Ask the desk for the password.
We have sitting areas for eating and offer a selection of drinks and snacks for sale. Please eat only at the picnic tables or party rooms to keep things neat and tidy.

Starting in December, the competition occurs over several events, culminating in the finals held in January or February. See the official Dark Horse site for more details.
