    MetroRock Climbing Team

Team MetroRock is a youth climbing team that meets 9 months out of the year to train for competitions and have some fun climbing. Though competing isn't mandatory, our team trains for local, regional and national competitions as part of the  United States Competition Climbing Association (USCCA). Each year, several members typically advance to nationals.

Our coaching staff, led by Steve Buck, work with kids from grade school to high school in weekly practice sessions. We help kids become competition level climbers through technique and strength development as well as climbing safety at higher levels. Team kids have fun, learn to work hard to achieve their goals and reach their full potential.

Our facilities feature extensive bouldering areas, tall walls for rope climbing and Everett boasts an IFSC speed walls, giving our team an advantage in that competitive event. Optional trips to outdoor climbing areas, both regional and around the country ,round out the training and give team members a chance to take their skill to real rock.

All team members please note: in order to encourage participation and team spirit, all team members are expected to read and sign our Team Philosophy and Contract located in the *2013 - 2014 Team Information Guide* link below.

    Instructors:

    Ken Miller, Lead Instructor

I studied Hatha Yoga at the Nosara Yoga Institute in Costa Rica, where I received my 200 hour Yoga Alliance-certified teacher training. My passion for yoga stems from its capacity to foster physical and emotional well-being in a fun and powerful way. Yoga offers wonderful tools for managing anxiety and stress, and for achieving a greater sense of ease, confidence, and self-acceptance. As a rock-climber and runner, I am grateful for the ways in which yoga has increased my strength, flexibility, and focus.

    Cindy Jao

Cindy discovered a love of yoga three years ago and hasn’t looked back since. She recently completed an intense 200-hour training in India, where she lived on an ashram, deepened her practice, and immersed herself in the yogic lifestyle. Her teaching comes from the heart, and blends her own experiences doing yoga in the East and the West. Her classes emphasize proper alignment and coordination of breath with movement, providing a foundation for developing the individual practice. She is continually inspired by the amazing teachers, students, crossfitters, runners, and climbers that surround her and hopes to share her love of yoga with them.

    Jeff Imperato

A lifelong outdoor athlete, Jeff came to yoga over 15 years ago to help heal a surfing-related neck injury. After finding that yoga changed much more than his body for the better, he become an avid student and teacher. He truly enjoys working with athletes to bring them greater strength, flexibliity, and (most of all) patience. His classes incorporate elements of Iyengar, Ashtanga, and Yin into a flowing vinyasa practice that’s designed especially for those seeking a helpful and lighthearted guide on their journey into yoga.

    Lisa Matthews

As a lifelong athlete, I came to the mat 10 years ago after a car accident left me with whiplash and limited mobility in my neck. Yoga not only helped me heal, but gave me renewed strength along with flexibility I didn't think was possible.

Helping my ski friends recover from sore hamstrings, hips, and quads after a long weekend on the slopes finally sparked the interest for me to move from student to teacher. I completed my 200 hour teacher training at Back Bay Yoga Studio in Boston. My vinyasa training is infused with Ashtanga, Forrest, Yin, Anusara, and Iyengar and I bring a lighthearted and inquisitive nature to my classes.

When I started climbing in the fall of 2012, I couldn't believe how a sport could align with the practice of balance, strength, breath, and mental fortitude so perfectly -- I am thrilled to bring my yoga practice to the climbing community at MetroRock.

    MetroRock Climbing Team

Does your child climb like a monkey?

Come join Team MetroRock, our nationally-ranked youth climbing team! Together this group of dedicated kids come together nine months out of the year to train, work on technique, and develop as climbers. While a certain level of commitment is expected, there is plenty of time to have fun on and off the walls with the rest of the team. Though there is no requirement to compete, many of the group look forward to testing themselves at local, regional and national competitions as part of the USA Climbing Championships. Each year, several members from our competitive team typically advance to Divisionals, Nationals, and even Worlds!

Our coaching staff, led by Steve Buck, work with kids from grade school through high school in weekly practice sessions. We help kids become competition level climbers by practicing drills and strength routines, as well as by sharpening climbing techniques and skills. Team kids have fun, learn to work hard to achieve their goals, and strive to reach their full potential.

Our world class facilities feature extensive bouldering areas, tall walls for rope climbing and an IFSC speed walls, giving our team a training edge. Optional group trips to top-rated outdoor climbing areas, both regional and national, provide a great opportunity to have fun outside and give team members a chance to test their skills on real rock.
