Yoga Pose of the Month - March 2013 - Handstand

IMG_6244_1.jpgI love handstand. I’ve never worked so diligently on one pose despite falling over and over again, all the while maintaining a sincere enthusiasm for the work I was doing. Through that process I learned more than just the biomechanics of the pose, I learned that in order to succeed at anything in life, it takes equal parts patience and determination.

I will preface any instruction for handstand by sharing that patience is key when
practicing handstand. Know that even though progress can seem slow and can even seemingly move backwards at times, it all adds up.

Hey climbers!

Yoga is alive and well at MetroRock and now we’re part of the blog team! Check this blog for news about the MetroRock yoga program and yoga-related happenings in the area. In addition, we will be posting a pose-of-the-month to try out in class or on your own.

Attendance in our classes has been great and is steadily growing. We currently offer classes Monday-Thursday from 7-8PM in Everett, Monday at 7pm in Newburyport. We have a wonderful group of teachers, all of whose styles differ in ways that make for a rich and diverse set of yoga experiences.

It's been getting to know lots of you in the yoga studio as well as on the climbing walls. I hope you'll try out a class if you haven't already. You'll feel great, and your climbing with only get stronger as you experience improved focus, greater strength, better balance, and a greater flexibility. Plus, at least in my class, you'll hear some kick-ass tunes.

Yoga Classes

MetroRock is pleased to offer Yoga classes on a regular basis. Classes are taught by experienced yoga instructors who also share the passion of climbing. This allows them to focus-in on strengthening and stretching core muscles used in the sport. Yoga practice will help you increase flexibility, strength and mental focus; all vital elements to improve your climbing abilities!

Everett Summer Schedule (starting June 1):

  • Monday through Thursday at 7:30pm

Classes are on a "first come-first serve" basis. We do not take reservations. Ask about punchcards and package deals!

Ken Miller, Lead Instructor

I studied Hatha Yoga at the Nosara Yoga Institute in Costa Rica, where I received my 200 hour Yoga Alliance-certified teacher training. My passion for yoga stems from its capacity to foster physical and emotional well-being in a fun and powerful way. Yoga offers wonderful tools for managing anxiety and stress, and for achieving a greater sense of ease, confidence, and self-acceptance. As a rock-climber and runner, I am grateful for the ways in which yoga has increased my strength, flexibility, and focus.
