MetroRock is pleased to offer Yoga classes on a regular basis. Classes are taught by experienced yoga instructors who also share the passion of climbing. This allows them to focus-in on strengthening and stretching core muscles used in the sport. Yoga practice will help you increase flexibility, strength and mental focus; all vital elements to improve your climbing abilities!

Yoga is FREE for members and just $5 for non-members.

Classes are on a "first come-first serve" basis. We do not take reservations. Ask about punchcards and package deals!

Instructors:

Ken Miller, Lead Instructor

I studied Hatha Yoga at the Nosara Yoga Institute in Costa Rica, where I received my 200 hour Yoga Alliance-certified teacher training. My passion for yoga stems from its capacity to foster physical and emotional well-being in a fun and powerful way. Yoga offers wonderful tools for managing anxiety and stress, and for achieving a greater sense of ease, confidence, and self-acceptance. As a rock-climber and runner, I am grateful for the ways in which yoga has increased my strength, flexibility, and focus.

Cindy Jao

Cindy discovered a love of yoga three years ago and hasn’t looked back since. She recently completed an intense 200-hour training in India, where she lived on an ashram, deepened her practice, and immersed herself in the yogic lifestyle. Her teaching comes from the heart, and blends her own experiences doing yoga in the East and the West. Her classes emphasize proper alignment and coordination of breath with movement, providing a foundation for developing the individual practice. She is continually inspired by the amazing teachers, students, crossfitters, runners, and climbers that surround her and hopes to share her love of yoga with them.

Jeff Imperato

A lifelong outdoor athlete, Jeff came to yoga over 15 years ago to help heal a surfing-related neck injury. After finding that yoga changed much more than his body for the better, he become an avid student and teacher. He truly enjoys working with athletes to bring them greater strength, flexibliity, and (most of all) patience. His classes incorporate elements of Iyengar, Ashtanga, and Yin into a flowing vinyasa practice that’s designed especially for those seeking a helpful and lighthearted guide on their journey into yoga.

Lisa Matthews

As a lifelong athlete, I came to the mat 10 years ago after a car accident left me with whiplash and limited mobility in my neck. Yoga not only helped me heal, but gave me renewed strength along with flexibility I didn't think was possible.

Helping my ski friends recover from sore hamstrings, hips, and quads after a long weekend on the slopes finally sparked the interest for me to move from student to teacher. I completed my 200 hour teacher training at Back Bay Yoga Studio in Boston. My vinyasa training is infused with Ashtanga, Forrest, Yin, Anusara, and Iyengar and I bring a lighthearted and inquisitive nature to my classes.

When I started climbing in the fall of 2012, I couldn't believe how a sport could align with the practice of balance, strength, breath, and mental fortitude so perfectly -- I am thrilled to bring my yoga practice to the climbing community at MetroRock.
